What Intuit has confirmed about the ItsDeductible shutdown

TurboTax’s published 2025 guidance told users that ItsDeductible would be discontinued on October 21, 2025 and encouraged them to export 2021–2025 donation data before that date.

The old service is no longer the path for accessing records. Intuit’s current support instructions instead direct former users to request a personal-data download from their Intuit Account.

Those instructions specifically address ItsDeductible: after the requested file is ready, Intuit says the ItsDeductible data can be found inside the SharedData subfolder.

If you were trying to reach the old service, see our focused ItsDeductible login guide.

Why did TurboTax shut down ItsDeductible?

Intuit’s public ItsDeductible shutdown guidance did not provide a detailed product-specific reason. That is the important distinction between what is known and what is speculation.

Cost, usage, product simplification, or broader TurboTax strategy are plausible explanations people have discussed, but they should not be presented as confirmed reasons without a direct statement from Intuit.

The practical result is clearer: the former year-round donation tracker is gone, while historical records may still be recoverable through Intuit’s account-data process.

How to recover old ItsDeductible data after shutdown

If you did not export everything before the shutdown, Intuit currently provides this recovery path:

    1. 1

Sign in to your Intuit Account

Use your Intuit account credentials rather than the discontinued ItsDeductible login.

    2. 2

      Open Data privacy

Choose Data privacy, then select Download.

    3. 3

      Choose the data to request

If you use TurboTax, Intuit says to select TurboTax on the data-selection screen.

    4. 4

      Submit the request

Intuit will email you when the file is ready. Its current guidance says requests can take up to 15 days, depending on the amount of data involved.

    5. 5

      Look inside SharedData

After downloading and opening the file, look for the ItsDeductible information in the SharedData subfolder.

Use Intuit’s current personal-data instructions as the authoritative source because the workflow can change.

    Did TurboTax replace ItsDeductible?

Not with a direct return of the old year-round service. TurboTax Online now includes a fair market value lookup for common donated items inside its charitable-donation workflow, but that is a narrower tax-preparation feature rather than the former standalone donation-management system.

That distinction matters because valuation at filing time and year-round recordkeeping solve different problems. For the current TurboTax feature itself, see our TurboTax FMV tool explainer.

For a dedicated comparison of ongoing tracking options, use the ItsDeductible replacement guide. This article intentionally stays focused on the shutdown, historical-data recovery, and what changed.

What former ItsDeductible users should do now

    1. 1

      Recover anything you still need

Keep old CSVs, PDFs, screenshots, tax-return support files, and any historical data you can retrieve from Intuit.

    2. 2

Preserve the donation record, not just the value

Keep the donation date, charity, item descriptions, condition, valuation support, and relevant photos or receipts together.

    3. 3

Use current IRS guidance for valuation

IRS Publication 561 explains fair market value and valuation principles for donated property. Requirements can become more detailed as donation values rise or for certain types of property.

    4. 4

Move current-year tracking to an active workflow

Capture donations throughout the year so you are not reconstructing item details, condition, dates, and charity information months later.

For tax valuation guidance, start with IRS Publication 561. ItsDeducted provides recordkeeping and estimated fair market values, not tax, legal, or financial advice.

What should a modern ItsDeductible replacement do?

The useful habit ItsDeductible encouraged was simple: document donations during the year instead of rebuilding them at filing time. A modern workflow should make that habit easier, not turn every donated item into another search-and-type task.

ItsDeducted is built around faster capture with photos or lists, reviewable estimated values, organized donation records, and tax-time exports. See how ItsDeducted works, or how to import saved ItsDeductible data if you already have an export.

Common questions about the ItsDeductible shutdown

The original TurboTax ItsDeductible service was discontinued in October 2025 and is no longer available as an active donation-tracking service. Intuit has not announced a return of the old service.

ItsDeducted provides estimated fair market values and recordkeeping support. It does not provide tax, legal, or financial advice. ItsDeducted is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Intuit or TurboTax. TurboTax and ItsDeductible are trademarks of Intuit Inc.

    Year-round donation tracking

The old tracker is gone. Your donation records do not have to be.

Take a photo, import a list, or add items manually so current donations are documented before tax time.
