Can You Import Donations Into TurboTax Online After ItsDeductible?

TurboTax Online’s current support docs do not provide a general third-party donation-file import workflow. Here’s what former ItsDeductible users can do instead—and why Desktop is different.

An organized donation export is still useful when your tax software requires review or manual entry rather than a direct file import.

TurboTax Online and Desktop handle this differently

The product name matters. Intuit’s current charitable-donation instructions for TurboTax Online walk users through entering donations inside the return. Its separate TXF instructions explicitly describe a Desktop import workflow.

    TurboTax Online

Donation entry, not a documented general file import

Intuit directs Online users to Federal → Deductions & Credits → Donations to Charity and then through the donation-entry flow. Its public help does not describe a general TXF or CSV upload for charitable-donation item lists.

    TurboTax Desktop

    TXF import is documented

Intuit’s TXF instructions say to open the return in TurboTax Desktop, choose File → Import, and then use From Accounting Software on Windows or From TXF Files on Mac.

The important distinction: an export file only creates a seamless handoff when the receiving product supports that import format. ItsDeducted can export donation records; TurboTax Online still controls which third-party formats it accepts.

ItsDeductible was different because Intuit controlled both sides

ItsDeductible was part of Intuit’s TurboTax ecosystem, so Intuit could support a tightly integrated handoff between its own services. After ItsDeductible shut down in October 2025, independent replacements could build donation tracking, valuation, import, export, and recordkeeping tools—but they could not independently add a new import pathway inside TurboTax Online.

That is why “can the replacement export my data?” and “can TurboTax Online import it?” are two separate questions. Both sides of the handoff have to support the same workflow.

If your broader question is which product now fills the year-round tracking role, see our ItsDeductible replacement guide. This article stays narrower: what happens when those records reach TurboTax.

What former ItsDeductible users should do now

    1. 1

Preserve any old donation records you still have

Keep saved lists, PDFs, spreadsheets, screenshots, receipts, and other historical records together. If you have usable old lists, start with our ItsDeductible import guide.

    2. 2

Track new donations before tax time

Capture the charity, date, item details, quantity, condition, and estimated fair market value while the donation is still fresh. That record remains useful regardless of which tax software you use later.

    3. 3

Choose an export that matches the next step

ItsDeducted supports Excel, PDF, and TXF workflows. Excel and PDF are useful for review and documentation; TXF is intended for compatible TurboTax Desktop workflows. See how donation export works.

    4. 4

Recheck TurboTax’s current instructions before filing

Import capabilities can change. Use Intuit’s current help for the TurboTax product you actually use rather than assuming Online and Desktop support the same file types.

Where ItsDeducted fits in the tax-time handoff

ItsDeducted’s job is to keep the donation record complete before tax time: donated items, estimated fair market values, charity details, dates, quantities, condition, and supporting context. When you are ready to file, you can export the record in the format that fits your workflow.

For TurboTax Online, that currently means using organized records as the source for the product’s donation-entry flow unless Intuit documents a compatible third-party import method. For TurboTax Desktop, ItsDeducted’s TXF export aligns with the import path Intuit currently documents.

TurboTax Online also now includes a fair market value lookup during charitable-donation entry. That is a separate feature from importing an external donation file; our TurboTax FMV tool guide explains that distinction in more detail.

What is true today—and what could change

As of September 26, 2026, Intuit’s public support documentation does not describe a general third-party charitable-donation file import for TurboTax Online. It does document charitable-donation entry in Online and TXF import in Desktop.

Last verified September 26, 2026: this page is about the documented workflow, not a claim that TurboTax Online can never add one. If Intuit publishes a compatible donation-import path later, the distinction on this page should be updated with the new official instructions.

Common questions about importing donations into TurboTax

Intuit’s current support instructions do not document a general third-party file-import workflow for charitable-donation item lists in TurboTax Online. The Online instructions instead walk users through entering charitable donations inside the product.

ItsDeducted provides estimated fair market values and recordkeeping support. It does not provide tax, legal, or financial advice. ItsDeducted is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Intuit or TurboTax. TurboTax and ItsDeductible are trademarks of Intuit Inc.

    Donation records that travel

Keep the records now. Choose the handoff later.

Track items, values, charity details, and dates as you donate, then export the record that fits your tax-time workflow.
